Korowai Kākahu - Wedding
This Korowai has one row of purple feathers symbolising spirituality and femininity. Purple, being a rare and valuable colour, represents nobility and connection to the ancestors.
The white feathers represent new beginnings and unity. It reflects the bride’s transition into a new phase of life, representing peace, harmony, and the sacredness of the union.
Taniko patterns and meanings:
The Taniko band represents the Pātiki (flounder) bringing prosperity, good-luck and favourable times referring to the flounder.
Kia hora te marino, kia whakapapa pounamu te moana, kia tere te kārohirohi i mua i tō huarahi
May peace be widespread, may the sea glisten like greenstone, and may the shimmer of light guide you on your way.
