Tūmatauenga/Tāwhirimātea Korowai Kākahu
This Korowai, made with deep reds, grays, and earthy tones, tells the story of Tūmatauenga, the god of war and people. The bold red represent his anger and strength, sparked by the rift between his parents, Ranginui (the sky) and Papatūānuku (the earth). The red is a reminder of his fierce determination to protect his people.
The grays added into the Korowai reflect the stormy conflict between Tūmatauenga and Tāwhirimātea, the god of the weather. The swirling grays capture the chaos of the endless battle between the forces of nature and humanity, with both sides locked in an eternal struggle.
These colours connect the wearer to the land, showing the deep bond between people and the earth they protect. Together, these colors tell the story of the ongoing clash between the forces of nature and the people.
