The red feathers in this Korowai represent strength and passion. It shows the strong foundation being built together and the importance of family and community. 
Taniko patterns and meanings:
The Taniko band represents the Pātiki (flounder) bringing prosperity, good-luck and favourable times referring to the flounder. 
These colours also incorporate the iwi Ngāpuhi  using red, black and white
