This Korowai represents the traditions of our ancestors, this design itself using red and white feathers with a red and black taniko band.
These colours hold deep meaning, representing:
Leadership (Rangatiratanga)
Strength (Kaha)
Mana (Spiritual power and prestige)
Taniko patterns and meanings:
The Taniko band represents the Pātiki (flounder) bringing prosperity, good-luck and favourable times.
