This Korowai is a unique embodiment of mana, connection to whenua, and the spirit of te Moana. Made using a Jade Patiki Tāniko band, it symbolises abundance, navigation and the guidance of ancestral knowledge, with the patiki (flounder) pattern representing prosperity and adaptability.
A single, deliberate row of pure white feathers runs through the garment, embodying harmony, balance, and spiritual clarity. These feathers act as a thread of peace and calm amid the vibrant life of the cloak.
The Paua-toned blues woven through the Korowai reflect the ever-changing hues of the ocean, te Moana, connecting the wearer to the deep currents of identity, journey, and guardianship. The blues also pay homage to the vast, fluid strength of Tangaroa.
